Sweet Home Shipshewana!

June 24th, 2010

We parked in front of our Shipshewana “home” late Sunday night and proceeded to unload the bus and make ourselves “at home” for 2 weeks of shows, fellowship, Blue Gate food, and loads of fun! Shipshe is one of our favorite places. The Browns take in all the sights and sounds of this quaint Amish town…horses and buggies…all the Riegsecker stores…the Mercantile Center…the Flea Market…the antique stores…wonderful people…and lots of Mel’s Old fashioned Cream Pie!!!! We love being in the theater for 2 straight weeks. Opening shows for Sandi Patti was a treat again this year. She is the real deal and so sweet to work with. We had lots of visitors and had many fellowship meals at the Blue Gate Restaurant. Our two weeks closed with Friday and Saturday concerts at the City Conference Center with The Collingsworth Family and Ernie Haase Signature Sound. If you need a break and would like to get away to a quiet peaceful retreat with a chance to see a great show follow The Browns to “Sweet Home Shipshewana”

Sweet Home Alabama

June 24th, 2010

We had a great weekend in Birmingham, AL singing with The Trammell’s and three other groups. Those Southern folks know how to make a group feel at home. We did our set and ended with a song that brought them to their feet. The emcee brought us back on stage for an encore and, as they say down south, the crowd was, “jumpin pews and throwing babies’! As we walked off stage the emcee said, “See, I told you that you’d like these Yankees!” Love that Southern Hospitality!
It was wonderful to sing with Jessica and Nick and spend a few days with them. Jessica’s boss took us out for a great meal and sang her praises to us. It is great to know she is working for a company owned by folks who are fun, wise, successful, and appreciate her so much! Nick is doing great in his classes and should complete his CPA degree in 2011. He has been so diligent and is getting great grades.
Our visits with The Trammell’s are usually short, but very sweet! Sweet Home Alabama!!!

Home to pick up the Jeep

February 7th, 2010

Last week Dad and I flew home to pick up the jeep that mom and I flipped on our way down to FL.
It was like de’ ja vu going home. The day we left was a full out snow storm. The day we came home it was a snow storm like the one we left in! We took a taxi from the airport to the shop that fixed the jeep and counted 25 cars in the ditch in the 25 miles we drove…. then we headed down the interstate towards home nice and slow!!
We only plowed through a few snow drifts till we hit our gravel road…. about 50 yards from our house the drifts were so big we had to park the jeep and walk the rest of the way.
The wind was blowing about 30-40 miles an hour and we had to walk through a drift that was waist high and about 20 yards long!! I thought it was pretty cool and a fun little adventure…. dad was not laughing!!
We got snowed in that night… there was no way in, and no way out!
We were only home about 24 hours before we headed out again for a 24 hour drive back to Venice, FL to sing.
We stopped at Nick and Jessica’s house in AL on the way through and had a wonderful visit with them… and Emmit (the dog!)
Dad and I pulled in at 6:30 just in time for a 7:00 o’clock start with The Dixie Echoes and Lu Lu Roman from the TV show Hee Haw!! Great Concert

Just call me Flip!

January 12th, 2010

We left home for our FLorida tour in a blizzard last week!!! Keith had to take the tractor and dig us out of our driveway and down the gravel road. Michaela and I took off before the bus in our Jeep that we tow behind the bus. We thought we would get our hair done in Omaha before we headed South. (Are we high maintenance or what?)
We were almost to Omaha when I hit black ice. Just before we hit the ditch I did what I always tell the kids to do, call out the name of the Lord! We hit the ditch, rolled and came to rest right side up. There was glass everywhere and Mic had one small cut on her finger.
When they tell you that your life passes before your eyes it’s not true, there’s no time! I am so thankful for an ever watchful God and His protection. With the below zero temperatures I’m glad we didn’t have to wait long for a highway patrolman to come to our rescue. I was even able to witness to him after he wrote out my ticket!
All weekend long I’ve been thinking how wonderful life is! I guess God isn’t finished with us yet or we’d be home in heaven! Love life, live it to it’s fullest, and don’t forget to tell the people around you that you love and appreciate them!!!
